This post shows students and new users how to disable screen lock on Ubuntu Linux. By default, if you step away from your Ubuntu desktop for a short while, it will automatically lock the screen to prevent others from accessing your files or programs. This feature is included for security reasons.

At home, it may be safe to disable Ubuntu screen lock. If you do not want your computer to automatically lock after a brief while, the steps below show you how to disable the screen lock on Ubuntu desktop. You can also manually lock the screen by selecting the system menu at the top right corner and clicking the lock icon on the menu pane.

Doing this will lock the screen instantly. To return to your desktop raise the lock screen curtain to reveal the logon screen. Enter your password to logon. When your screen is locked, other users can log in to their own accounts by clicking Log in as another user on the password screen. You can switch back to your desktop when they are finished. Ubuntu lock screen is good, however, it can be annoying at times.

To disable screen lock on Ubuntu Linux, click the System Menu at the top right corner and select Setting. Then select Privacy on the left menu and show the privacy options. On the privacy pane, select Screen Lock. Clicking the Screen Lock will display the option to disable. Tick the button to OFF to disable as shown below. You may also want to turn of Show Notifications options so that private messages are not displayed on the screen when screen lock is enabled.
